In PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, IOWA, 1887, page 222-223, there is a biography of John S. Reeves, son of Thomas and Mary (Hoskinson) Reeves. It mentions Thomas Reeves had been born in Fleming County, KY in 1776, and "at an early day emigrated to Ohio, where he became acquainted with, and married Miss Mary Hoskinson, a native of Maryland." It goes on to say that previous to this time, "Thomas Reeves had been married and had a family of twelve children, none of whom are now living. In 1841 he came with his family to Washington County, Iowa, an old man of sixty-six years, took up a claim in what is now Marion Township, improved a farm, and died April 30, 1846. Mrs. Reeves preceded him to the unknown world just ten days, dying on the 20th of April." (Even though the month disagrees with their headstones, the biography backs up a death year of 1846).
The children of Thomas and Mary (Feurt) Reeves were:
Delilah Reeves, married Henry Harman.
Joseph Reeves, married 1) Margaret Ishmael and 2) Evaline Custer.
Jane Reeves, married Nicholas Friend.
Susannah F. Reeves, married John Hodge(s).
Elijah Thomas Reeves, married Indiana Custer.
Mary M. Reeves, married Montgomery McCall Crouch.
The children of Thomas and Mary (Hoskinson) Reeves were:
Margaret Reeves, married Arnold Custer.
John Spencer Reeves, married Lucy A. Kenton.
