Donald V. Grothouse, 84, died at 12:51 a.m. July 17, 2012, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born April 8, 1928, to Sylvester and Luella Kehres Grothouse, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Frances Schweller, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Grothouse retired as a manager of production control from Fruehauf, after 36 years. He was an Army veteran serving with the Corps of Engineers in Korea and at Thule Air Force Base in northern Greenland for two years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1362 and the Delphos Country Club, both in Delphos, the St. Vincent De Paul Society, where her served as president for six years, and Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima. He was a timekeeper for Delphos St. John's basketball for 40 years. He was an avid golfer and had made two holes-in-one.
Survivors also include two sons, Thomas Grothouse, of Fremont, and John (Julia) Grothouse, of Warsaw, Ind.; a daughter, Mary (Bill) Rickrich, of Newark; seven grandchildren, Karen and Laura Rickrich, and Susan, James, Matthew, Nicholas and Mark Grothouse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul John Grothouse; three sisters, Mildred Noonan, Doris Klausing and Alene Grothouse; paternal grandparents, August and Catherine Ricker Grothouse; and maternal grandparents, Henry and Anna Shirack Kehres.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Melvin Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
