Reil Walker, daughter of John Warren Hannah (1892-1958) and Viola S. (Courter) Hannah (1870-1950), was a teacher in a one-room school near Newport, Iowa, known as Midway School, when she met and soon married Samuel Nathaniel Walker. She inherited a large family in the process.

Sam was widowed, his wife, Hattie Mae (Moyers) Walker, had died recently, in 1918, leaving him a father of eleven children, many of whom were still quite young. Reil and Sam were married March 27, 1920, at Davenport, Iowa. Reil was only several years older than Sam's oldest daughter, Elsie.

In addition to raising many of the first brood of Sam Walker's chlidren, they would have five children of their own. These included Viola Belle, John Henry, Marjorie Naomi, Robert Charles, and Rosalie Reil Walker.

Rosalie died at age 17 days in 1933. John died in France in 1944.

By the time youngest son, Bob (Robert Charles) Walker, graduated from high school, his father, born in 1869, was aged 80.

Sam and Reil lived on the family farm near Newport until the time of the 1930s Depression which saw them lose the farm and move, as renters, to another north of Morning Sun, Iowa. Later they would retire in the town of Morning Sun. Reil died less than a year after Sam (1958 vs 1957) and was buried alongside him and his first wife, Hattie. The two wives' children numbered sixteen. There were indeed many Walkers!

Reil's birth family consisted of herself and four sisters. A brother died in infancy. She was the oldest child in the family.
