According to a letter dated January 23, 1959, from William Otterbein Cooley (1884-1966) to John F. Anderson, Esq. 33 E. Boscawen St., Winchester, VA: The two Cooley's that you mentioned who purchased "Belle Grove" in 1860 were uncles of my father. In other words, my grandfather was Joseph Cooley, and Benjamin W. (Barnes) and John W. Cooley were brothers of his. As I stated in our conversation, my parents (Benjamin Franklin Cooley) and grandparents lived in Warren County all of their lives except for a sort period of time..they too, lived in "Belle Grove" during the war years.
