I have corrected the death date to coincide with the obituary since this is the only document provided. The actual obituary states 73 years instead of 78 from the transcription. This puts the death date at 4 Apr 1910. This is still not coinciding with the transcription of the transcription of the Wayne County Illinois Death Record for him so I'm going to stick with the contemporary document provided. Thank you to Laurie Selpien FIND A GRAVE ID 47715624 for the photo of the actual obituary.

If anyone has any actual documentation other than a transcription on a piece of paper that states anything about his death that I can actually see for myself then I will gladly add his death date. Because of a request, I was trying to find something other than the transcription that is typed on here but I can't find anything yet. I see a discrepancy with the dates given on one of the transcriptions below because the supposed obit says that he was aged 78 years, 7 months and 27 days old at the time of his death. Just the 78 years alone puts it at 1914. If I use the age given by the transcriber of the obituary, his death date would be 7 Mar 1915. The obituary supposedly is from 1910??? That doesn't make any sense at all. Was he 78 years, 7 months and 27 days old or wasn't he? Then the death date from the death record transcription is dated after the obit. In my findings, People typically die first and then get an obit…not the other way around. So now I'm going to feel forced to delete his death date altogether until I find something that actually proves anything. There is too much room for error when you transcribe instead of just posting the original because we don't know if the mistake is from your transcription or from the person filling out the original. I will leave the transcriptions below in this bio but please take this information with a grain of salt. I have added a document that has yet another death date for him which is also a transcription mind you so if you find a hard copy of the death certificate or obit., please post a photo of it to his memorial and send me another request. Thank you for your help.

Dr. Garrison was born August 8, 1836, being 78 years, 7 months and 27 days old at the time of his death. He was born in Wayne County, Illinois, at the old garrison homestead in Hickory Hill Township, near old Keeneyville. He practiced medicine in Wayne and adjoining counties for 50 years. His medical education was obtained at the old Missouri Medical College. He was a successful and popular practitioner and in his younger days had a very extensive and practice necessitating wonderful exposure and hardship thus debilitating and exhausting a strong and vigorous manhood. But he was a strong minded, resolute and sympathetic practitioner, always ready to respond to the call of the sick and distressed, facing the darkest of night, storms, bad roads, and inclement weather to relieve suffering humanity. Dr. Garrison was married to Rebecca Trotter of Hamilton County, Illinois, on August 23, 1859, to which marriage were born 7 sons and 5 daughters. Five of the children preceded their parents to the great beyond, namely; Samuel, Wallace, Walter, Isaac and Martha. The deceased professed faith in Christ early in life, uniting with the Missionary Baptist Church at Ellis Mound, being baptized by John B. Smith, in which church he was also licensed to preach. He was also admitted to the Bar shortly after his graduation from the medical school. His last sickness was long and oftentimes painful. During the last few months of his life he often spoke of going and expressed himself as ready to go. His companion preceded him some three years. Those survive to mourn his departure: three sons, and four daughters: Geo B Garrison, Paragould, Ark.; Charles P. Garrison, Chatham, Ill.; William Garrison, Nancy E. Bayles, Mrs. Mollie Sefried, Mrs. Phoebe Wittlerman and Mrs. ? all of Wayne County, and two brothers, Samuel and George Garrison of Hickory Hill Township. (obit from Bettie Wheat and Juanita Wellen).
