Wilburn "Nick" Nichols (1924-2012)

Wilburn Truly "Nick" Nichols was born on June 12, 1924 in Madill, Oklahoma to W.J. and Deborah (Yowell) Nichols and passed from this life on July 15, 2012 in Denison at the age 88.

Nick proudly served his country in the United States Army and served in combat in World War ll in the Philippine Islands. He married Noqueta Louise Hines "Skeet" and they were blessed with two children Joe and Kaye. He worked in the construction business for much of his life and has lived in Cartwright for the last 30 years and has helped his son with his business of tractors and Dixiechopper lawn mowers for 25 years. Nick was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and "Pops" as he was known by his family was very much loved.

Nick was preceded in death by his wife Noqueta "Skeet" Nichols; parents W.J. and Deborah Nichols; three sisters; two brothers and one great-grandchild.

Nick is survived by his son Joe W. Nichols and wife Charlotte of Cartwright; daughter Kaye Nelson and husband Bob of Bedford, Texas; five grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel. Tommy McDonald will officiate. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Colbert with Joe Paul Nichols, Bradley Nichols, Mike Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Bobby Nelson and Kevin Nelson serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m.
