James F. "Jim" Logan, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness.

James Frederick Logan was born February 23, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa the son of James Borland and Agnes (Remmers) Logan. He graduated from Red Oak High School with the class of 1938. He attended Red Oak Junior College, the University of Arkansas and the University of Iowa before serving in the United States Army during WWII. Jim was united in marriage to Ruth Miller on March 27, 1942 in Red Oak, Iowa. After Jim's military service, they settled back in Red Oak, Iowa where Jim started a 38 year long career with the Red Oak Express Newspaper as Sports Editor. He retired in 1984.

Jim never missed a day of work or a Red Oak School sporting event in all those years. He was a member of the Red Oak High School Sports Hall of Fame, Montgomery County Fair Hall of Fame, and received other community awards. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, honorary member of the Red Oak Fire Department, American Legion member , VFW member, past member of the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, former Country Club Board member, served 20 years on Red Oak Planning and Zoning Commission, former County Compensation Commissioner, was first president of the Tall Corn Baseball League, first sports statistician for Hawkeye Eight Conference, secretary of the Hawkeye Eight Press Club; former Lions Club member, and former Red Oak Elks Lodge member. Jim also won numerous journalism awards throughout his career and Red Oak's Mayor declared February 15, 1984 as "Jim Logan Day".

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother: Grace Morgan Logan; wife: Ruth on March 4, 2006; brother: Jack Logan; and sister: Joan Elliott.

Survivors include his son: Michael Logan of Red Oak, Iowa and many special friends including Connie and Keith "Skeeter" Perdue and their family of Red Oak, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 2 PM Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Dilley officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place prior to the memorial service in Evergreen Cemetery.
