She was born in Germany to Carl John Lingnau and Margaret Deters Lingnau. She arrived in Baltimore Maryland on the German Steamship Braunschweig as a female servant on May 3, 1883 at age 17. She and her future husband Hermann Wieting both arrived on the same ship and traveled to Hooper NE where she worked in the Hooper Hotel. They were married 4 years later on May 2, 1888. More of her life with Hermann is written on his biography. They are buried next to each other at the New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk Nebraska.
