IRWIN Peggy Barton, 89, died May 21, 2012, peacefully in her home.

She was born in Memphis, TN, the daughter of the late Samuel J. Bonds and Adelaid L. Bonds. Survivors include sister, Bettye Bonds Hollowell, Covington, LA and children, William C. Barton, Jr., Massillon, OH, J. Barry Barton, wife Sheryl, Memphis, TN and Peggy Barton Queen of Lexington. Grandchildren include John Barry Barton, Jr. and wife Lindsay, Laurie Elizabeth Barton, Justin Duckworth, Mary Elizabeth Queen, Meredith Barton Queen and great grandchild, Emma Louise Barton. She was preceded in death by husbands William Craft Barton and Dr. John V. Irwin.

Mrs. Irwin attended the University of Memphis and graduated from the DeShazo College of Music, Memphis, TN. She taught piano for several years in Memphis before moving to Owensboro, KY, where she combined her artistic talent and love of flowers to create Barton's Flowers. She was past President and member of the Home and Garden Club, the Owensboro Symphony Auxiliary, board member of the Mary Kendall Home for Abused Girls and Women and member of First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Irwin moved to Lexington to become House Mother of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at the University of Kentucky, where she was awarded House Mother of the Year. In 1990, she and her daughter opened Peggy's Gifts & Accessories in Lexington. Mrs. Irwin was a talented floral designer, who enjoyed traveling and gardening, but her greatest love was her family. She was a truly loving and devoted mother and will be greatly missed. Friends may visit 6-8pm Thu at Milward - Broadway. Graveside service will be Fri, May 25th 11am, Lexington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Best Friends Center, 516 Maryland Avenue, Lex., KY 40508.
