Obituary-The Glasgow Times-Aug. 19, 1948 Mr. Alonzo Davis
Alonzo Davis, 77, well known and highly respected Barren County citizen, died Thursday, August 12 around 11:55 a.m. at his home on the Bowling Green road following illness of seven months. Mr. Davis was well known in Glasgow where he was employed by the Davidson Bros. firm for several years. A son of the late Wesley and Janie Goad Davis, he was born Oct. 23, 1871, at McMinnville, Tenn. He was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janie Davis, three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Lena Kinslow and Mrs. Maud Wood, Glasgow; Jess Davis, Glasgow, R.1; and Charlie Lewis Davis, Summittville, tenn. Funeral services were held on Saturday 2:30 p.m. at Crow Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Rayburn in charge. Burial was in Glasgow cemetery. Alonzo's 1st wife was Minnie Matheny Church. They were married on Mar 15, 1890 in Barren Co., KY. Minnie's father, Joseph Church, signed for her to get married since she was underage. After his wife's death, their two daughter's went to live with their grandparents, Joseph Dave "Dona" Church and Mary Emberton Mathenie and were raised by them. They are listed on the 1900 & 1910 census living with them. On 1910 Barren Co. census Alonzo has remarried and children from this marriage.
