Deceased Name: FORREST - John L. Barber

FORREST - John L. Barber, 81, Forrest, died at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11, 1990) at his residence. He had been under a doctor's care.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Forrest United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Elder officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Culkin-Diggle Funeral Home, Forrest, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. There also will be visitation for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Barber was born July 21, 1909, in Strawn, a son of John and Jenny McMullen Barber. He married Marcia FitzHenry on Dec 29, 1934, in Milford. She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Jacqui Pasko, Springfield; Marilyn Becker, Urbana; Joyce Lesher, 5 Continental Court, Bloomington; and Gail Sue Barber, Fillmore, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

One brother and two grandsons preceded him in death.
Mr. Barber had farmed in Forrest Township and also had worked for Pittsburgh International Inc. at Fairbury. He later was employed at Pontiac Correctional Center for 11 years until retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Forrest United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and was a member of United Methodist Men and the church's dart ball team. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Forrest Cemetery; Forrest Lions Club, where he had served as Lion Tamer for several years; and member and past master of Tarbolton Masonic Lodge 351. He had been a Mason for 46 years.

Memorials may be made to his church or to St. James Hospital Hospice Unit.
