Cecil Roy Faulds, 802 Lorella Street on Ottumwa route six, 38 years old, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 3:25 AM today after he was struck by a police car, driven by M. Warren Criswell, assistant Chief of Police.

The accident occurred at the 400 block of Church Street, about 10:30 PM Tuesday. Immediately after the accident, the injured man was placed in the police sedan and taken to the Ottumwa hospital. Dr. H. W. Vinson, who attended Faulds, said that he believed the injured man had suffered a fracture of the base of the skull. Others reported that Fauld's forehead, nose and one hand were bruised and cut.

Faulds' mother, Mrs. Cora Faulds, said that her son had been in ill health for about a year. According to assistant chief Criswell's accident report, filed at the police station soon after the accident, Faulds stepped into the path of the police car which was being driven towards town about 22 miles an hour. The accident occurred in front of the O. K. Barber shop: Criswell believed Faulds had stepped from between two parked cars at the curve of the street. The right front fender of the car was that which was said to have struck the man.

The body was removed to the Johnson funeral Chapel, Coroner John Drake, who was investigating the case today, says he might hold an inquest. He said that this might not be held until after Faulds funeral. Drake said that no postmortem would be performed.

Faulds was born at Centerville March 8, 1895. He lived much of his life in Ottumwa and vicinity. He served overseas during the World war, was a member of the American Legion and of the Moose Lodge of Davenport.

He returned to Ottumwa late last fall after spending three years in Davenport. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Faulds; his mother, Mrs. Cora Faulds, both of Ottumwa; six brothers and sisters, Mrs. C. A. Eakins of Pittsburg, Kansas; George Faulds, address unknown; Clarence Faulds, address unknown; Clarence Faulds, Columbus, Ohio; Truman Faulds, Brooklyn, New York and Mrs. L. D. McFarland, Mount Pleasant. His father, John T. Faulds, preceded him in death about five years ago. Funeral arrangements have not been completed at the early hour this afternoon.
