Marion "Gene" Hammond Jr., 61, of West Brown Street, Nicholasville, died at his home on Thursday, Aug. 19.

A native of Jessamine County, he was born June 12, 1943, to Marion Eugene and Mildred Corman Hammond. He retired after 30 years from GTE.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 12 years, Donna Embry Hammond, father and mother-in-law, Mike and Louise Hurt; two children, Monica Francis and her husband, Jack, of Lexington and Wayne Allen Hammond of Frankfort; two brothers, David Hammond and his wife, Debbie, and Terry Hammond, both of Nicholasville; a special niece, Natalie Durham; a special nephew, Steven J. Hammond; a special friend, Sissy Presley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with the Rev. Clinton Hurt officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Hammond, Terry Hammond, Steven J. Hammond, Bobby Shelton, Bob Royse and John Caldwell.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike "Brother" Hammond, E.J. Presley, Dale Durham, Justin Durham, Payton Durham, Michael Hager and Brent Hager.

Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass of Jessamine County.
