Born in Harrison NJ to Italian immigrants; Concetta Padovano Arnone and Salvatore Arnone Mary was the oldest of 3 daughters and one of 8 children. The family moved to Kearny, NJ when Mary was about a year old, where the family ran a successful recycling business. Mary met and married Michael Campagna in 1929 and the couple moved to Newark where they raised 3 children then in 1953 move to Irvington, NJ. In 1968 Mary and Mike moved to Atlantic Highlands when Mike retired from GM Hyatt, in Harrison, NJ.
During all of her life Mary was an excellent cook - bar none. She canned her own tomato sauce every year until she suffered a stroke at the age of 85. Every Sunday she was up at 4AM frying meatballs, sausage and braciole for Sunday's macaroni dinner where her sons, daughter and their children would gather every weekend.
She loved all of her 13 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved people, parties and travel. She attended church every week and was a member of the senior citizens club in Atlantic Highlands. She frequently entertained a house full of people and all were welcome to stay for a delicious home cooked meal whatever time they came. She passed away at the age of 92 due to complications of the stroke she suffered at the age of 85. She was greatly loved and is greatly missed by her family and friends.
