Mrs. Lavata Mercer Vickers age 68 of Douglas, passed away Saturday October 5, 2002 at Phoebe Putney University Hospital in Albany, Georgia, after an extended illness. She was born in Coffee County on September 3, 1934 to the late Elzie and Elizabeth Bordeaux Mercer.

She was a former banker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include; her husband, Ben Vickers; 2 daughters, Marisa Henry and husband, Gordon and Debbie Royals and husband, Chester; 1 son, Rand Vickers and wife, Jeannie Lynn; 4 grandchildren, Chet Royals, Bree and Blaine Henry and Hali Vickers; 1 sister, Ruth M. Mathews, all of Douglas.

Funeral services were held at 3 pm Monday, October 7, 2002, at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. John Dobbins officiating. The interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
