•LUTHER SHAW, son of John and Tryphena (Bingham) Shaw. Born in Rutland, Vt., July 4, 1800. Prepared for College in Castleton Seminary. Principal, Academy, North Granville, N. Y., 1826-1827. Auburn Theological Seminary, 1830. Ordained, 1830. For more than thirty years a home missionary in Michigan. Removed to Tallmadge, 1863. Agent of the American Bible Society nine years. Married (1) Julia Chamberlin, Aug. 8, 1831. Children: Julia E.; Robert Bliss. Married (2) Lucy Ann Wright, August, 1835. A. B. Died in Tallmadge, O., Aug. 20, 1888.
After the death of his beloved Julia,in Romeo, Michigan, he was left with two young children to raise and still take care of his Home Missionary duties to his churches. In 1835, he married Lucy Ann Wright in Tallmadge, Ohio from the prominent Alpha and Lucy (Foster) Wright family, one of the first families to settle the Tallmadge area.
Luther served the church as a missionary in the Michigan Territory/Michigan State until his retirment from the field, when he and Lucy moved to Tallmadge and remained there until their deaths.
He was active in the Tallmadge Congregational Church, the Genealogical Society, and wrote letters to the newspapers regarding the liquor problems.
