Irye Lee Crowder, age 90, died at his residence, 460 Tobacco Rd, Dry Fork, VA, Sunday, June 28, 2009. He was the son of the late Samuel G. Crowder and the late Bessie Roff Crowder. Irye was born January, 21, 1919 in Mecklenburg County. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Nellie Emerson Crowder who survives.

Irye was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church of which he was very active having served as an official on the board and also served as a trustee. He was a former member of the board of directors for the Mt Hermon Volunteer Fire Department. Irye also served as president of Pittsylvania County Wildlife club. He worked his entire life as a farmer and had retired from that profession. He had served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corp.

In addition to his wife of the residence he is survived by two daughters Dennia and husband, Sammy Burton of Dry Fork, VA, Tracy and husband, Brent Walton of Dry Fork, VA, one foster son Sherman Hammock of Callands, one brother Robert Crowder of Leasburg, NC, eight grandchildren Chris and Lee Burton, Jodie Russell, Kristen Davis, Mason, Dakota and Bailey Walton, Joshua Parsons, five great grandchildren Christa, Makenna, Sam and Ginna Burton, Anne Russell.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by three sisters Annie Algood, Mary Wray and Myrtle Algood.

The funeral service will be held today, June 30, 2009 at 2:00pm at Norris Funeral Service Chapel, 3995 Franklin Tpke, Danville, VA with interment at Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, VA. Rev. Leroy Jones will officiate and Jim Hannah will assist. American Legion Dan River Post 1097 will conduct military rites.

Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Danville is serving the family.
