A member of the Pawnee Indian tribe, he was born in Pawnee county on March 7, 1894 and had lived in this area most of his life.
In 1920 he married Delilah Sheets at Stillwater (who survives) and to this union the following 5 children were born also surviving: Mrs. Della Lynch of Shell Knob, MO., John Charles Smith of Tulsa; Linford Smith of Tulsa; James D. Smith of Chicago and David Henry Smith of Skiatook.
Also 14 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Goldie Tilden of Pawnee.
He was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints and his services were held at the Poteet Funeral Chapel with Ralph Toahty and the Rev. John Hubbard officiating. Interment was in South Indian cemetery under directions of the Poteet Funeral Home
