Veronica Jane Carstensen was born October 28, 1906 to parents James and Pearl (Miller) Hoffman on a farm west of Bryant, SD. She grew up in the Bryant area, attending country school and later graduating from Bryant High School in 1926.
Vera married Hans John Carstensen on June 20,1928 at DeSmet, SD. The couple farmed west of Bryant their entire married life together before moving into the city of Bryant in 1973. Her husband, John, died in 1979 after fifty-one years of marriage. Vera continued to live in their home in Bryant until she entered the Parkview Care Center in 1995.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant, the W.E.L.C.A., and a circle in the church. She was also a member of the Bryant Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included traveling, playing cards, crocheting, crafts, and listening to music. She was a member of the Parkview singing group. She deeply enjoyed her grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life is her son, Gerald Carstensen, and his wife, Elvera, Bryant; three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Delores) Chapin, Vienna SD; Mrs. Elwood (Shirley) Peterson, Willow Lake SD; and Mrs. LeRoy (Dora) Spilde, Casselton ND; one brother, Robert Hoffman, San Leandro CA; two sisters, Vilda Kothe, Watertown SD; and Lorraine Hanson, Sacramento CA; thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; one brother and two sisters.
