DENVER'S FIRST SETTLER PASSES
Mrs. Mary McClain, Early Resident here Dies at Glendora Home.
Mrs. Mary McClain, 86 year old Colorado pioneer, who was among the earliest settlers of Denver, and had resided at her home on Gladstone avenue near Glendora for the past 20 years, passed away yesterday morning at 9 o'clock in her ranch home.
Born in Ohio, in 1847, Mrs. McClain came to Colorado when a child, living with her father and mother, who built the first home on the site where the city of Denver now stands.
As a girl, she returned to the middle west, attending Simpson Methodist College in Iowa and on graduation, went back to her home in Colorado, where she married George. D. McClain in 1880.
After spending much of their lives in and around Denver, the couple and their family moved to orange ranch between Covina and Glendora, where they resided together until the death of Mr. McClain a short time ago.
Mrs. McClain fell early in January, when she sustained injuries contributing largely to her passing. The funeral will be held from the chapel at Christiansen and Moore at two o'clock tomorrow (Saturday) with Rev. Cliff of the Methodist church of Glendora officiating. Cremation will take place at Forest Lawn.

Note: Remains taken to Denver and ashes buried on July 5, 1922 at Fairmount Cemetery.
