Virgil A. Spurling, 67, Kittitas Valley pioneer and longtime Cle Elum resident, died here yesterday after a lingering illness.
He was born in Marion County, Iowa in 1874 and came to the Kittitas Valley with his parents in 1881. He has lived here and in Cle Elum continuously since, except for three years spent on Puget Sound.
He was married to Nora Cahoon who survives him, in March, 1908. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Bessie West, Mrs. Florence Lammi and Myrtle and Lorene Spurling; two sons, Marcus and Aubrey Spurling; three sisters, Mrs. Cortus Poland of Sumner, Mrs. T. W. Porter and Mrs. Luther Harrel of Ellensburg, and two brothers, Seth Spurling of Kirkland and Grover Spurling of Ellensburg.
Funeral services will be held from Jones Chapel in Cle Elum Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
