William Lafayette Galpin 1868-1959

William Lafayette Galpin was born January 30, 1868 in Hamilton, Caldwell county, Missouri to David Eli Galpin and Sarah Ann (Sweat) Galpin.

His nine siblings include; John Lanning Galpin, Martha J. (Galpin) McBrayer, Rebecca Ann (Galpin) Dalton, Rodah Ellen (Galpin) Roney, David Allen Galpin, Floyd Ellis Galpin, Francis Marcus Galpin, Charles Eli "Charlie" Galpin and Margaret Elizabeth (Galpin) Crocker.

He was first married to Cora Stella Wilkinson. She was the daughter of J.E. and M. Wilkinson of Buena Vista, Chaffee County, Colorado. The couple had no children and Cora passed away shortly after their marriage.

William's second marriage was to Ida May Sailor on February 20, 1903 in Gallatin, Daviess county, Missouri. She was the daughter of Moses N. Sailor and Nancy (Haggerty) Sailor.

They became the parents to six children; Willa Mae (Galpin) Godat Dow Dethlefsen, Cora Marian (Galpin) Toon, Charles McKinley Galpin, Marguerite (Galpin) Lee, James Edward Galpin and Robert Sailor Galpin.

William and Ida later divorced. However, Ida listed herself as "widow" in the 1930 and 1940 censuses.

William married a third time to Gertrude "Sadie" (Dusky) Tipton on August 28, 1939. She was the daughter of Maletus Young Dusky and Mary A. (Butler) Dusky, and the ex-wife of Silas Elmore Tipton.

They had no children together, being very advanced in their years.

William passed away in 1959 in Chaffee County, Colorado, and was laid to rest in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, in Buena Vista, Chaffee County, Colorado, in the plot next to his first wife, Cora and son, James.
