The youngest child of William L. Hanks and Jane Elizabeth Emery, "Arch" (aka "Archie") married Lora Ann White on 06 Feb 1904 in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a contract trucker, and they were the parents of 6 children. The family moved to East Hardin in 1936.

Arch went about his normal routine for most of the day on 04 Jul 1938. That evening, he began to feel ill and gradually got worse. He died suddenly at his home in East Hardin around 9:30 p.m.

At the time of his death, Arch was 61 years, 2 months and 4 days old. He was survived by his wife, Lora; 5 sons, Russell, Farris, Merle, William and Archie Lee; 1 daughter Velma; and 1 grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 07 Jul 1938 at the Church of Christ in Nebo, Pike County, Illinois.

Arch's wife, Lora, passed away in 1957 and was buried at Hardin City Cemetery in Calhoun County, Illinois.
