Husband of Cornelia A. Scriven (married 11/1/1858 in Dougherty Co., GA).


Son of Simon Bryan and Thirza Allen. Simon Bryan was born in Barnwell District, South Carolina, and died in 1832. Simon & Thirza had other children: Joseph Lycurgus Bryan;


Simon was the son of Joseph Bryan of South Carolina, who in turn was the son of John H., of North Carolina. Thirza was also a native of Barnwell District, SC and daughter of Joseph Allen, of South Carolina.


An after-battle letter by Capt. Bryan to his wife concerning the Battle of Gettysburg is on file with the State Archives of Florida. Of the entire Co. C, 5th Florida, but 8 walked off the field unscathed that day.
