Harvey served as a Private, U.S. Army during World War I.

He resided in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

After World War I had ended the follow report, involving Private Hadley was submitted:

"The Battalion moved once again on January 16th to Mangiennes (Meuse) was engaging in salvage and demolition work over an allotted area in that locale. During this work a German Mine exploded resulting in the death of seven men from Company "I" including Pvt Harvey Hadley."

This was cited from "The 59th Pioneer Infantry Regiment by Brig. Gen. Kennard R. Wiggins Jr. (DE ANG Ret.)

Harvey died in the "Line of Duty" in the above incident.
