Johnny's career as a master craftsman took him to New York building skyscrapers and then returned home where he owned and operated a restaurant and service station, where Noble Cars is today. He was one of the original founders and a life member of the Falmouth Fire Department where he had served as fire chief from 1962-1969. He was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 290, and the Plasterers Local 96, Washington, D.C. Johnny loved to recall the history of Falmouth, outdoor activities, and having family around him. He never met a stranger in need he didn't offer help and was the one everyone in the family went to for advice. He will live forever in our memories.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Frances B. Shelton, two daughters, Judy Fines and her husband, Carlyle of Spotsylvania; Becky Shelton Croom of Falmouth; two sons, John "Sonny" Shelton of Danville and Martin F. Shelton of Falmouth; 8 grandchildren, Douglas Fines and his wife, Karen, J.D. Fines, Valerie Morris and her husband, Mike, Kaitlyn Shelton and Carley Croom, Candi and Sandi Shelton and Megan Shelton; two great-grandchildren, Douglas "L.D." Fines and Kayla Morris; a number of nieces and nephews and many many friends all of which he treated as family. He will be greatly missed by all.
