James Thompson was born to William and Mary Fowler Thompson on 4 May 1792. His is twin with John W Thompson.. He married Mary ? bef 1816.

James was a Methodist Minister in Camden, Wilcox, AL. He received his ministers Licence on 25 Jan 1836 in same county. He built Society Hill Church with carpenters from his plantation and donated the land. The Old Society Cemetery is on this location. James, his 1st wife, Mary, 2 daughters, 2 daughters-in-law, and 2 sons are buried in this cemetery.
