In the midst of a bed of flowers that breathed a fragrance of last fond remembrance, all that was earthly of the late Wenzel Schauer, early settler of Tisch Mills and well know leader of Schauer's Brass band some years ago, was laid to his last resting place at the local cemetery Monday morning. Hundreds of friends from throughout this section and many from Kewaunee and Two Rivers attended the very large funeral.

Mr. Schauer, the sturdy pioneer who resided at Tisch Mills for many years, has been making his home for the past years at Gary, Indiana, with his son-in-law Martin Kraus where he passed away. Arriving here Saturday the deceased was kept at the residence of Jos. T. Konop's, the local undertaker, from where the funeral was held.

The cortege formed at the village with fraternal organizations, marching bodies and the Tisch Mills band rendered a selection marching to the cemetery in fond
memory of the well known musician who had passed away.

High mass was sung at ten o'clock at Saint Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Father Shimek pastor of the local church and Rev. Kubale of Kewaunee; Rev. Hodik and Rev. Vorlicek of Stangelville officiating and also an address by the missionary Rev. Eugene Dale.

POPULAR OLD MUSICIAN LAID TO REST
When Schauer's band played at a dance, a large attendance was a sure thing. That was about 15 years ago. Wenzel Schauer was the leader and moving spirit of this musical organization which was a well known and popular band through-out the county in the days when the square dance, schotisch and glide were still popular.
Mr. Schauer answered the final summons at his home in Gary, Indiana last week Thursday at the age of 83 and his remains were brought to Tisch Mills where his musical talent had won him fame and many friends in the good old days. The funeral was held on Monday. One of his old comrades, the last survivor of Schauer's Band, gathered a few musicians and at his grave they rendered a farewell selection, “Neared My God to Thee”, the sad, sweet strains touching the hearts of all. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in the county, thousands of the old friends of the deceased attending.
He had settled near Tisch Mills when a young man and the large funeral testifies to the many friends he made in the vicinity. His musical talent was inherited and acquired from his father, who was a well known musician of Bohemia. He was married to Mary Shup of the town of Carlton who passed away 39 years ago.
Deceased is survived by four sons and four daughters, who are: Matthew Schauer of Milwaukee, Joseph Schauer of this city, John Schauer of Milwaukee, Wenzel Schauer of Milwaukee, Mrs. Mary Riha, Mrs. Catherine Schrema, Mrs. Anna Petrof and Mrs. Frances Hucek, all of Milwaukee. He also leaves three brothers and two sisters, Frank Schauer, Tisch Mills; Anton G. Schauer, Kewaunee; John Schauer, Lena, Wis.; Mrs. Anna Soucoup, Tisch Mills; Mrs. Anna Sladky of Milwaukee. Miss Frances Krause and Mrs. Wm Casper, nieces of the deceased of Gary also are here. Those from this city to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Schauer, Louis and James Schauer, Mrs. Clayton Arle, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Gehrke and Miss Lillian Schauer.
