"Wenzel" was the third of seven children (four sons & three daughters) born to Wenzel & Elizabeth (Cisler) Stangel; he came to America with his parents & three sibling from Stráž, Domažlice, Plženský Kraj, Czech Republic.

In 1875, he married Katerina Vogeltanz in Manitowoc County, WI; he was age 24, she was 21.

"Wencil Stangel, Sr., retired farmer of Tisch Mills and a cousin of Jacob J. Stangel of this city, died at the hospital where he has been receiving treatment. He was 69 years of age and is survived by two sons, Wencel and Joseph and a daughter, Josephine. He located here in 1855, coming from Germany.

"The body will be taken to Tisch Mills where the funeral will be held."
