NOTE: As with his father, he was known to all around as "Wenzel". This marker reflects his birth name: Václav, which is a Czech male first name of Slavic origin, sometimes translated into English as Wenceslaus or Wenceslas -- derived from the old Slavic/Czech form of this name: Vencslav.

Born on the family farm in Mishicot (Township) of Manitowoc County near the village of Tisch Mills; "Wenzel" was one of nine children (six sons & three daughters) born to Václav "Wenzel" & Katerina (Vogeltanz) Stangel; but only four of these nine lived much past infancy.

On 23 February 1897, "Wenzel" Ignatz married Anna Sklenars at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Tisch Mills, WI; he was age 21, she was 20.

A hard-working, successful family farmer & father of three, "Wenzel" Ignatz died at age 64.

"Wenzel I. Stangel (sic), 64, retired town of Mishicot farmer, died early today at the Holy Family hospital in this city. He had been in failing health for a year.

"Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hlinek of Tisch Mills, and at 10 o’clock from the St. Mary’s Catholic church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

"Mr. Stangel was born in the town of Mishicot, near Tisch Mills in 1885 (sic) and spent his life in the town. He married Miss Anna Sklenars and they located on a farm two miles southeast of Tisch Mills. Mrs. Stangel died in 1905.

"Twelve years ago Mr. Stangel retired and has been making his home with his son, Adolph. He was a member of the Holy Name society of the Tisch Mills congregation.

"Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Hlinek of Tisch Mills, Mrs. Wenzel Honzik of Gibson; son Adolph, of Tisch Mills; sister, Mrs. Emil Kerch, of Algoma; brother, Joseph, of Tisch Mills; and 11 grandchildren. The body is at the Konop funeral; home in Tisch Mills and will be moved to the Hlinek home Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at the Hlinek home Sunday afternoon at 3:30."
