Julia Henrietta Getting, 85, of Northfield died Oct. 31, 1992, at the Dilley Unit of Northfield Hospital. Getting was born Dec. 7, 1906, to Juluis and Talka (Kramer) Tscherter on the family farm in Pocahontus, Iowa. At a young age, the family moved to a farm near Mountain Lake. After attending Okabena Schools she helped her parents on the farm. On Feb. 16, 1926, she married Bud Getting in Sanborn, Iowa. The couple farmed with his parents near Windom and in 1931 they moved to their own farm near Windom. The couple farmed until 1951 when they moved to Bingham Lake where Bud began working as a carpenter. They moved to Northfield in 1960 following retirement to be near their children. Getting enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers. She babysat her grandchildren and a number of neighborhood children. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, who died in 1978; two children, Roger and Marilyn; a sister, Mary Ryan and five brothers, Gustav, John, Franklin, Julius and Henry. Survivors include four sons, Richard (and Anne Marie) and Raymond (and Norma), both of Northfield, Robert (and Mary Kay) of Lonsdale and LeRoy (and Ruby) of Rosemount; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sidney of Windom and Ernest of Aurelia, Iowa; and three sisters, Anna Koster of Round Lake, Louise Freitag of Mountain Lake and Evelyn Hovland of Thor, Iowa. Visitation was held Nov. 2 at Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at United Methodist Church of Northfield with the Rev. Ted Colescott officiating. Music was provided by organist Hedwig Klinefelter and vocalist Holly Sina. Pallbearers were grandchildren Kay, Terry, Jon, Bruce, Tom, Dan, David and Jim Getting, Kimberle Kuivinen and Kris Olson. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandchildren Aric, Ryan and Ashley Bandy. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Northfield.
