77, formerly of Baton Rouge, passed away in Jackson, Tenn. Nonna was born in Taganrog, Russia, and enjoyed a beautiful early childhood. When Germany invaded Russia, her family found themselves trapped in their homeland, and the Nazis beat her father to death.

Nonna and her mother were taken to Germany and placed into a labor camp. Her mother was moved to a concentration camp and exterminated, leaving Nonna as the sole surviving family member.

Nonna immigrated to the United States in 1950 to begin her life over. It was here that she met her husband of 53 years, William Henry Bannister. Nonna's whole world revolved around her family and she put all of her energy into their care and happiness.

Nonna was a devoted and compassionate wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves to cherish the memory her husband, William Henry Bannister of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons and a daughter, William H. Bannister Jr. of Olive Branch, Miss., Elizabeth Sumner and husband John of Memphis, and John D. Bannister and wife Kathy of Jackson, Tenn.; and five grandchildren, Kara, Catie, Zachary, Cristin and Benjamin.
