Henry was one of ten known children born to Benjamin Haines and his wife. Henry married Marie Margaret Veach, one of eleven children born to Benjamin Veach and his wife, Mary Ford. Henry was a well-to-do farmer in Pennsylvania and Adams County, Ohio. He was held in high esteem by his contemporaries. Henry and Marie had fifteen children; nine sons and six daughters. They were James (Catherine), Benjamin (Catharine), Nancy Shultz, John (Sarah Ann), William (Eliza), Andrew, Samuel Veach, Margaret Ro(e)buck, Simeon (Nancy), Hannah Liston, Edwin, Ross and three daughters who were stillborn or died in infancy.

WILL: Adams County, Ohio Will Book #3, pages 248 & 264. Henry Haines Will included two Codicils. Excerpt from the first codicil: "I Henry Haines ... that my son Andrew shall have and I will and bequeath to him my wagon and two horses and all my farming utensial. Give under my hand and seal this 4th day of August in the year AD 1849. ... ." Excerpt from second codicil; "I Henry Haines do as my son Andrew has been called before me I now will that Margaret is to have all Andrew part of my estate except John is to have sixty acres of the land in Stead of forty five and Margaret Shall not be bound for the horse and saddle to Nancy as Andrew was but to hold all his share. given under my name and seal the 16th day of July 1852. ... ."
