Death of Jonas Sulham.
Jonas Sulham, for years a well
known resident of Hyde Park, died
at his home in Woodbury Monday,
September 8. The deceased was 81
years of age and the youngest of 11
children, all of whom lived to the
age of 80 years or more.
Mr. Sulham was a soldier in the war
of the rebellion and served the
entire period of the war from 1861
to '64. He received many wounds in
battle, having one shoulder almost
totally disabled by a cannon shell,
and received a cut across the scalp
from a sword, besides numerous other
slight injuries. He was united in
marriage twice: the first time with
Nancy McKinstry, who bore him five
children, of which three survive,
namely Abram Sulham of South Woodbury
and Gustavus of West Woodbury and
Mrs. Frank Pierce of Orfordville, N. H.
His second wife was Miss Seloma Ingalls
and she bore him eight children, three
boys and five girls, Leonard Sulham
of West Danville, Frank of Hyde
Park and Marshall of Belvidere; Mrs.
Frank Meacham of Elmore. Mrs.
William Warren and Mrs. Agustus
Newland of Hyde Park and Mrs. Leo.
Cowan and Mrs. Averill Alexander of
Morrisville. Jonas Sulham was a
hale old gentleman, looking after his
interests and doing a great many
chores till the close of life.
He never had any serious sickness,
after the war, even to the last; was
taken without a minute's warning with
heart disease, he leaves besides his
children, numerous relatives and
friends which mourn his loss deeply.
The funeral took place last Wednesday
and the interment was in the
Hardwick cemetery.
