Rose began her career as a teacher in Indiana but after a year, entered nursing school in Cleveland, OH. She then sailed to Hadjin, Turkey to serve in a mission, working with orphaned Armenian children, as many Armenians had been massacred. She soon undertook nursing responsibilities for the entire city and wrote many articles and pamphlets. Turks later raided the town and massacred many Armenians there. Rose became very ill and was sent home. David Musselman, a rancher in Texas, was also born in Vera Cruz, PA. When she left for Turkey, David expressed his interest in her. After her return and recuperation he proposed and the were married on October 04, 1911. Oil wells were drilled on the property and the Musselmans became very wealthy. Despite their good fortune, Rose used her nursing knowledge to help people in the outlying areas and also served as postmistress at a local post office she had been able to establish.
