Jerry Gumm, 77, Webster City, died Sunday, Nov 17, 2002 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Asburg United Methodist Church in Webster City with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home Wednesday and one hour prior to services.

Gerald LeRoy Gumm, son of Roy and Gladys Murphy Gumm, was born May 3, 1925 at Trenton, MO. He graduated from Dows City High School. He served with the U.S. Navy in WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1946. On June 12, 1946, he married Betty Leytham at Denison, Iowa. The couple moved from Rockwell City to Webster City where they have been residents for over 30 years. Mr. Gumm was a depot agent for the Illinois Central Railroad. Most of Mr. Gumm's railroad career was spent in Rockwell City and Webster City areas. He retired in 1981. His favorite retirement hobby was woodworking. He enjoyed building cabinets and later intricate wood carving. The couple enjoyed wintering in Donna, Texas for several years and traveling. They visited their son in Spain and Korea.

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & Joe Burton of St. Paul, Minn., a son and daughter -in-law, Ron & Kathy Gumm of Bellevue, Iowa; grandchildren, Tracee Burton, Shawn & Katie Gumm; a brother, Doyle "Doc" Gumm of Fort Dodge. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kenneth and Gary Gumm.

He was a member of the Rockwell City Am Vets, the Moose Lodge in Webster City, and Asbury United Methodist Church.
