Dillard Merritt

Age 59, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, January 16, 2004 at Embassy Care Center in Wilmington. Born October 3, 1944 in New Haven, Illinois, he was a son of the late John and Minerva Cole-Merritt.
Dillard was a machinist for Mobile Refinery and later owned and operated his own trucking and excavating company. He greatly enjoyed working.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Betty Jo (Brown); two sons, John (Susan) and Thomas both of Wilmington; and a daughter, Christine Serna of Joliet; a brother, James (Leslie) Merritt of New Haven; a sister, Naomi (Sonny) Hines of Equality, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Lora Page of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Jimmy Merritt, Johnny Serna and Kaylee Merritt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as a special cousin, Sambo Merritt; and a faithful companion "Bo".
Dillard was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18, 2004 from 3 to 7 PM at Reeves Funeral Home in Wilmington. Funeral Services will then follow on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 10 AM with Rev. Mark Strothmann officiating. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.
