Jack Cady died peacefully in his home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the age of 89 and "may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest". Visitation is from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27th at Broadway Mortuary. Family will not be present. Rosary 5:00 pm, Wednesday, June 27th and funeral services 10:30 am, Thursday, June 28th, both at St. Thomas Aquinas. Family interment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Lindsay, Nebraska.
Jack was born in Columbus, Nebraska on January 22, 1923 to Margaret and John Anthony Cady. He was a veteran of WWII, having joined the Marine Corp at the age of 17 and was an aerial gunner in the South Pacific. He participated in the consolidation of the Southern Solomon Islands and the Battle of Guadalcanal. At the end of the war, he utilized the GI Bill to attend the University of Nebraska where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Upon graduation, he moved to Ashton, Nebraska where he taught biology, coached basketball and was Superintendent of the Schools for 3 years. After leaving Nebraska, Jack worked for the US Rubber Company in Chicago and later Kansas City. In 1965, he moved to Wichita and started Pawnee Plastics which diversified to four plants across the United States. For many years, he sponsored and coached Little League Football, which touched the lives of many young boys.
Jack retired in 1986 and enjoyed tennis, golf, skiing, running and travelling. He took great pride that he switched from right to left hand in golf and had a hole-in-one with each.
Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years, Vicki; daughter, Connie (John) Johnson; son, John Cady, Jr.; daughter, Carrie (Bruce) Bertram; son, Trey (Ginger) Oliver; and six grandchildren, Jake and Joe Johnson, John Cady III, Tyler Bertram, Quaid and Alston Oliver.
The family wishes to thank all of Jack's loyal friends, Dr. Ray Fisher and Serenity Health Care for their loving and devoted care to Jack during his final days.
