Mitchell J. Atkins, 86, of Florence, passed away Feb. 7, 2010, at Southridge Place. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, member of Dale Hornsby's Sunday School Class, Turtle Point Golf Association, Florence Country Club and owner of Mid South Vending Co.
The family will receive family and friends noon-1 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2010, at Greenview Funeral Home, with the funeral service following in Greenview Memorial Chapel at 1 p.m. Officiating the service will be Chris Underwood. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie J. and Grace Lovett Atkins. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Atkins, of Florence; daughter, Pam Tate and husband, Joe Tate, of Florence; son, Steve Atkins and wife, Judy Atkins, of Florence; grandchildren, Brooke Tate Beck and husband, Brock Beck, of Nashville, Tenn., Matt Tate, of Florence, Stephanie Atkins, of Huntsville, Kimberly Atkins, of Florence, Morgan Atkins, of Florence; sisters, Verta Kelley and Nell Tate, both of Birmingham, Ala.
Active pallbearers will be Matt Tate, Brock Beck, Sam Taylor McCrary, Daniel Dillard, Martin Leopard and Brian Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Highland Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Highland Baptist Church Building Fund.Deepest thanks to Anita Bobo and Scottie South who were blessed angels that attended to Dad during his stay at Southridge Place.
