FRANKLIN, Idaho - Forest Ferrell Bateman, 78, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. He was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Montpelier, Idaho, the son of Hargraves and Debora Williams Bateman.
He graduated from Bend Oregon High School and then served in the Navy on the USS Valley Forge during the Korean Conflict. He married Ramona Mae Bennett on March 5, 1955, in Kokomo, Ind. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Washington, D.C., LDS Temple.
He enjoyed riding horses, the outdoors, four-wheeler rides and spending time with his family. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in many callings including Sunday School teacher, member of the Sunday School presidency, High Priest Group Leader, and as Bishop of the Franklin Idaho First Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Bateman of Franklin; a daughter, Tracey Lynn (Kent) Tolman of Hooper, Utah; a son, Brian Scott (Andrea) Bateman of Ogden, Utah; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Glenn (Susann) Bateman of Palbute, Ore.; Harv (Doris) Bateman of Tulle Lake, Calif.; and by a sister, Verla (Steven) Hardisty of Beaverton, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a stepfather, Leo Leonard.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, in the Franklin Stake Center with Bishop Randy Sharp conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
