was the daughter of John & Mary Devenbaugh
Thompson. Her family moved from OH to
Shelby Co about 1841. She married William
Samuel Atherton of Shelbyville in 1849. She
bought 2 town lots with the help of her
mother and was a dressmaker and school
teacher. She was widowed in 1855. She
provided for several family members in
addition to her children over the next 2
decades. In 1871, she remarried to Rev.
H. Winter of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
After his death, she lived between Shelbyville,
Milton & Bedford, Trimble Co, KY in the 1880's.
She had to move into the home of friends,
after surviving the 1913 Milton flood and
died shortly thereafter.
