Winona June Ennis was a twin. Her twin, Juanita, died at age 6 months.

She moved to Modesto, California in 1919 after her father's bakery burned in Lindsay, California. Her father died when she was only 9 years old.

While at Roosevelt Junior High School in 1928, she earned the American Legion Award for Leadership.

She was very active in her church and Christian Endeavorers in High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Charles Ross Costley. They eloped and were married in Sonora, California on September 28, 1932. Winona and Charlie had one child, Carl Ross Costley. Charlie passed away on May 16, 2004. They had been married 71 years.

Winona was a member of Orangeburg Freewill Baptist Church. She loved to send greeting cards. She never missed an occasion to send one to relatives that she had never even met and everyone in the church. She sent them for every holiday.

Winona was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters; her husband, Charlie; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Costley; grandson, Mark Costley; and granddaughter, Linda Costley Cunha.

She is survived by her son, Carl Costley of Oakdale, California and granddaughter, Eileen of Hayden and her husband, Tom. Her great grandchildren are Stacie, Lindsay, Logan, Trevor, Derrick, and Chantell. She has 3 great great randchildren.

Winona was buried at Modesto Citizens Cemetery in Modesto, California. She is buried with Charlie, her parents, and granddaughter, Linda.
