BETTE JEAN HIATT DLUZAK, 78, of Bradley, died Wednesday (Dec. 28, 2011) in the emergency room at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Ullin, the daughter of James and Josie Hiatt. They are both deceased. She was a graduate of Webber Township High School, class of 1951. She received degrees in education from Eastern Illinois University. She served for many years as a public school educator in Illinois; as college administrator at Liberty Baptist University in Lynchburg, Va., and retired from Momence public schools. She is survived by her devoted husband, Don Dluzak, of Bradley, whom she married in June 1991, in Bradley; her son, Jeffrey (Joan) Wood, of Lakeville, Minn.; her daughter, Julie Wood Morgan, of Bourbonnais; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Leslie) Wood, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jacob Wood and Joanna Wood, both of Lakeville. She is also survived by the love of her life, two great-granddaughters, Talia and Lexie Wood, of Minneapolis. Bette is also survived by three siblings, James R. Hiatt, of Godfrey, Lora H. Donoho, of Columbus, Ohio, and John Delbert Hiatt, of Keystone Heights, Fla.; plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Carl, Arthur, Freddie and a twin brother, Bobby; and three half brothers and sisters, Cecil Hiatt, Mildred Whitehead and Kathryn Stover. Bette lived in Bradley and Okeechobee, Fla., at the time of her death. She was a faithful member of the Manteno Church of the Nazarene. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Manteno Church of the Nazarene, Sixth and Locust streets in Manteno. The Rev. Jack McCormick will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Manteno Church of the Nazarene. Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, is in charge of arrangements.
