The Honorable Albert J. Tomsic, 87, of Walsenburg, died on July 7, 2012. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the United States and overseas in the Philippines, Okinawa and Japan. He received a law degree from the University of Colorado in 1951 and practiced law in Walsenburg for 14 years. He served in the Colorado State Legislature from 1952 to 1962 and held positions as House Majority Leader and Speaker of the House of Representatives. He served as District Judge of the Third Judicial District from 1965 to 1986. Judge Tomsic is survived by Patricia Tomsic, his wife of 57 years; and mother-in-law, Ann Sudar of Walsenburg; son, Alan Tomsic and daughter-in-law, Cindy Vardzel of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Bridget Crider, son-in-law, Jerry Crider Jr., and grandson, Jerry Crider III of Pueblo West, Colo.; brother, Victor Tomsic and sister-in-law, Loretta Tomsic of Merritt Island, Fla.; sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Mooso of Greeley, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 111 E. Seventh St., Walsenburg. A gathering will be held immediately following the services at La Plaza Inn, 118 W. Sixth Ave., Walsenburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Senior Outreach Program, c/o St. Mary Church/Sister Carol, 111 E. Seventh St., Walsenburg, CO 81089
