Sophia Susan Cade was married to Lawrence Whitsett Walker from Davidson Co. TN. His parents were Alexander Drury and Sabeller Whitsett Walker , both buried in the Alexander Walker Family Cemetery in Nashville TN. Sophia's parents were Drury Bud & Sarah Susan Weldon Easley Cade. Sophia & Lawrence were married in Greene Co. AL on December 18, 1827. They moved to Noxubee Co. MS in 1836 and purchased a large amount of land and slaves. Additionally they built a very sucessful mill located on the Hashuqua Creek, creating a large amount of wealt. According to Noxubee, MS records the largest amount of wealth in Noxubee Co. by 1860. Together they had 5 sons who lived to adulthood, & two more children, a boy named John S. born in 1832 and died in 1837, and a girl (name unknown) born in 1836 and died in February 1837, both are buried beside her. According to her obituary, which was recorded in the New Orleans Christian Advocate, "She had been a member of the Church from her youth and was exemplary in all the relations of life. It was her invariable practice to read the Scriptures before retiring to rest at night, and from them she drew the lessons of patience, kindness, and affection, which characterized her as a wife, a mother, a mistress, and a friend." She had been in poor health for some years before her death.
Her five sons with her husband Lawrence were at her side as she passed on a Tuesday evening.
Lawrence Whitsett Walker Sr. died in Gallatin TN September 17, 1889. Place of burial unknown.
