YORKTOWN - Mrs. Frances Rives Adcock Bailey, 88, of Yorktown, died Sunday, May 29, 1994.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Herman Bailey M.D., who practiced medicine for many years in Sandston and Yorktown. Mrs. Bailey, a graduate of Coker College, devoted her life to her family, her church, and helping others. She was the Henrico County Christmas Mother in 1952, served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross for nearly 50 years and as a volunteer at Patrick Henry Hospital for over 25 years. She was a member of Yorktown Baptist Church, where she also served as organist, a member of the Compte deGrasse Chapter of D.A.R., a member of the United Daughter's of the Confederacy, charter member of the Wednesday Morning Music Club, and the Yorktown Women's Club.
Survived by three sons, Lt. Col. Benjamin Herman Bailey Jr. and his wife, Anne Marie, of Williamsburg, Robert Rives Bailey M.D. and wife, Betty, of Yorktown, and Dean Adcock Bailey and wife, Susan, of Richmond; one sister, Emma Adcock Davis of Gainesville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Lynn Marie English, Elizabeth Anne Bramham, Mary Frances Freeman, Robert Rives Bailey Jr., Katherine Ann Cowen, Virginia Benton Gugig, Thomas Benjamin Bailey, and Sara Rives Mallory; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 31, 10 a.m. at Yorktown Baptist Church with Revs. Donald P. Stroud, Draa Thompson, and Ralph English. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends at Mrs. Bailey's home in Yorktown following the burial service. Memorials to Yorktown-Poquoson American Red Cross, 6912 George Washington Memorial Highway, Grafton, 23692 or Yorktown Baptist Church Building Fund, Nelson Street, Yorktown, 23690.
