Death Took Place on Sunday After a Long and Painful Illness.
Mr. James T. Montgomery, who was operated on by Dr. Stuart McGuire about a month ago in the hope of checking a desperate disease and has since been very ill, died yesterday morning at his late residence No. 521 N. Ninth street.
The end came about 10 o'clock. He died peacefully but not without pain, surrounded by his family and his Pythian brethren.
Mr. Montgomery came to this city about a year ago from Roanoke, and secured a position in the machine shop at the Locomotives Works. He was, until he sickened a vigorous, powerful man, but of a modest, retiring disposition and , while he made not many friends, those who he made knew him loved him. He was a consistent member of Grace Street Presbyterian Church from whick edifice the funeral will take place at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
