Spencer E. Cummings, 72, of 8129 Salisbury Street, Sandy Creek, died Wednesday, July 18, 1984 at his home.

Born Sept. 9, 1911 in the Town of Sandy Creek, a son of Bert and Rosa King Cummings, he attended Sandy Creek schools and married Thelma Mae Soper July 3, 1937 in Fulton. She died December 27, 1972.

A Naval veteran of World War II, he retired in 1974 from Blount Lumber Company, Lacona. For many years, Mr. Cummings raised excellent garden produce for sale at his home. He was also a retired member of the Sandy Creek Fire Department, and had been an avid participant on the local Checker Club, during the 1930's.

He is survived by a son, Carl; a sister, Miss Ruth Cummings, and two grandchildren, Carol and Jeff Cummings, all of Sandy Creek, A brother, Roy, died December 19, 1983.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, at the Summerville funeral Home, with Rev. Louis Hausele, pastor of the Boylston Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek.
