WILLET LADY, 94,
OLDEST RESIDENT
OF TOWN IS DEAD

Mrs. Mary Ann Babcock Passes Away
After Long Illness—Brothers Mar-
ried Sisters and They Worked
Farm Together In Partner-
ship Many Years

Willet, Feb. 20—Mrs. Mary Ann Jones Babcock, widow of tho late Andrew M. Babcock, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, at the home of her son, Melvin A. Babcock. She was born at Blinham, N. Y.. December 25, 1829, and was 94 yearn old, the oldest resident of this town. For several years she has suffered from rheumatism, drawing her hands and
limbs out of shape, especially the past two years. She was one of ten children born to
Enoch and Wealthy Williams Jones, seven of whom lived to be over eighty years of age. She married Andrew M. Babcock, Feb. 20, 1853. In the spring of 1856, she and her husband commenced farming with his brother, Marvin Babcock and wife, Eliza J. Babcock, in company. The sisters had married brothers. They continued together for 25 years on the original homestead, where she died. The two families lived together and ate at the same table and were pleasantly and profitably situated. In 1880 they purchased the adjoining farm, known as the A. S. Babcock farm, and in 1881 dissolved partnership, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Babcock taking possession of the new farm while Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Babcock remained on the homestead. In her domestic life she was a model in her home, always looking to the welfare of the family and beautifying her surroundings and no amount of hard labor was allowed to stand in the way of accomplishing her heart's desire, and there still remains much of the work of her hands which will do justice to her memory, worthy of her successors' emulation.
There now remains only one sister of the family of ten children, Mrs. Eliza J. Babcock, widow of Marvin Babcock. She also leaves one son, Elvln A. Babcock, with whom she has lived since the death of her husband in 1900, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Ray Holtmart of this place. The funeral was held at the home of her son, Sunday, Feb. 17. The Rev. M. J. Dodd took the text from Joshua 1-11, "Ye shall pass over this Jordan."
The bearers were four nephews, Geo. B. Palmer, Adelbert Babcock, Franklin L. Maine, and Orin Jones. She was placed at rest in the village cemetery.
