OBITUARY
PUNTENEY
George V. Punteney was born in Morgantown West Virginia. February 27th 1820 Died in this city Sunday July 25th 1920 thus being within a few days of 100 years and – month of age.
He was the son of John and Ann Punteney and his father was an old time Methodist having been converted under the preaching of Jesse Lee, one of the pioneers of American Methodist ----.
When 9 years of age he came with his parents to Lewisville, Indiana where lived till about 1850 when he left for Clayton County, Iowa. In 1854 he was married to Mary Ann Predmore and lived with her until her death in 1868. There were four living children from this union as follows: Mrs. Dora J. Wanless of Washington State, Harker Punteney of the I.O.O. F. Home Mason City, Weldon Punteney of Atkin, Minnesota. Mrs. L. P. Sanborn (Nellie) of this city.
After the death of his first wife he – in 1873 married to Sarah T. Truman and she lived until July 31st 1918 dying at the age of 92.
Father Punteney has been very activity with the church during all these years as trustee, steward Sunday school, superintendent, class leader and Sunday school teacher.
His 100th birthday was observed in February 27th by a public reception at the church at which nearly all old friends came and gave him many congratulations, Mr. Barker, Mr. Kessel and Mr. Murtha made addresses his pastor read a sketch of his life and he himself made a very visible address the last public utterance he made.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the M. E. church, Rev. – officiating and interment was in the family lot at New Oregon Cemetery.
This obituary has faded so was difficult to read.
